Friendly Fire

“The angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in flames of fire from within a bush. He saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.” Exodus 3:2 (NIV)

“This is what the Lord says— He who created you, He who formed you, ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One …your Savior… You are precious and honored in my sight, …because I love you.”  Isaiah 43:1-4 (NIV)

Dear Consuming God,

Help us not to fear the fire of Your consuming love. Let us draw near to Your heat to find what perfect Love can do. We will not die but be purified and live. Burn away the refuse of time wasted chasing after idols. Reduce to ashes past decisions that ended wretchedly. Blow to the winds the ash heap of our unforgiveness and bitterness. Cleanse us by the fire that gives us a new beginning — a do over, a hope and future.

Then set our cleansed heart ablaze with the affection we long to give back to You. Give us adequate words and loyal obedience that prove we love You in return.

In Jesus Name Forever
