They Know Not

“…it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” Leviticus 17:11 (NIV)

“Pilate… took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, ‘I am innocent of this Man’s blood; see to that yourselves.’ And all the people said, “His blood shall be on us and on our children!” Matthew 27:24,25 (NASB)

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” Ephesians 1:7 (NIV)

Dear Jesus,

The forgiveness You purchased for us by shedding Your blood is graciously placed upon us. Those calling for Jesus’ blood didn’t know what they were saying yet their words spoke of Your love for them, for us all. They meant one thing but You meant another.

There could be only One Covering for sin. You willingly gave it for those who knew not what they were doing (Luke 23:34 NIV). We cannot comprehend Your selflessness, but want to. Let the realization they did not have be ours now in abundance. Let all who do not yet know, come to know. There is hope for the guilty. There is a Balm in Gilead and His blood paid for me.
