Within Reach

“Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?’ No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.” Deuteronomy 30:11-14 (NIV).

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. John 1:14 (NIV)

Dear Problem Solver,

You reached down because we could not reach up. You crossed an ocean of separation because we caused a gulf between us. You gave us your word. You personally stepped down into our frailty, bridged the gap, walked among us, stooped to heal us, delivered Your body, pierced Your heart, shed Your blood, tore the veil, put death to death. Then You stretched out Your hand within reach of ours. We take it. And You are right; it is not too difficult. You absorbed all the difficulty. You brought heaven down to me.

What a lovely prayer, Cathie. I love the word pictures given to us about (not having to) ‘ascend into heaven’ or ‘cross the sea’. No, the living word is in our mouths and our hearts, so we can speak it and take it to heart (live it)!

Would you mind if I use your prayer as a Christmas greeting? I would say where I got it, of course 🙂
