“David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. And Jonathan, Saul’s son, rose and went to David at Horesh, and strengthened his hand in God. And he said to him, ‘Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Saul my father also knows this.’ And the two of them made a covenant before the Lord.”
1 Samuel 23:15-18 (ESV)
Dear God,
No weapon formed against us will stand! Nothing that You have determined to bless us, grow us, and give us the Kingdom can be thwarted. We will be found in Christ because that is where You placed us. You have quickened us, redeemed us, justified us, and are sanctifying us for Your glory and our good. Those two things always go together! You create, plan, and execute Your magnificent will in heaven and on earth! You don’t have anything to prove but for our sake, You proved Your love by sending Your Precious Son. We have the unshakable evidence of the Cross, the victorious empty tomb, and Your Indwelling Spirit to confirm what You say is true!
So, this is our prayer, spoken by Jonathan to David. “You will be King, and I will be next to You!” Let this awe-inspiring truth possess our hearts like it did Jonathan’s. He was willing to be minimized that Your plans be maximized! He laid it all down for the sake of knowing You and living fully Your revealed will. Let his humble act of courageous faith be our own. Renew us with the strength that comes from seeing You fulfilling every promise, every plan to the nth degree! You truly are King because You do what kings should do— You are first in and last out! No one is left behind, not one! We lay our wills down for You, God, and King. Thy Kingdom Come!
