An Algebra Life

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 (NIV)

Dear Mathematical God,

Giving something away means we should have less. But not according to Your kind of math! It is in giving that we receive, in dying that we live, in being last that we are first, and in humility that we are exalted. Who does math the way You do? The answer is simple. It is those who have come to experience Your wondrous, generous, giving Nature! It all adds up! You are the sum of Everything Good.

As we engage in the “distributive property” of prayer, we see amazing provision, from seemingly out of nowhere. When we distribute our goods and talents, they are multiplied above and beyond what we can imagine.  We apply the “Communitive Property” of life in the body of Christ and we find we are building up the Church, to be all we should be. We become more and many! By the “Associative Property” of time spent with You in Your Word, we find everything we need for life and godliness. And through the “Additive Identity Property” we find who we are in Christ, because of Christ, and with Christ. We come to understand what Paul meant about learning to have the kind of contentment that brings great gain! Though we are being poured out like a drink offering, our cup doesn’t run dry, but overflows. We trust You to only subtract what is not adding up. Numbers don’t lie because You don’t lie! In conclusion, You are amazing!

(To think, Lord, I had always thought I didn’t like Algebra!)
